Cllr Alina Vaduva in her professional capacity, attended London Fashion Week.
Read her reflections below about what it means for us:
London Fashion Week 2024 has once again shone a spotlight on the incredible talent and innovation within the fashion industry. This year, however, it was not just about high-end glamour and catwalks—it was about something more important: sustainability. The event saw a rise in young designers and entrepreneurs committed to making fashion greener, more ethical, and more sustainable for the future.
We the Dartford Labour Group, have discussed how we can further support these emerging talents who are leading the charge for change in fashion. We know that sustainable fashion is not just a trend; it is a necessity in the face of the climate crisis. That is why we are proud to back the young designers who are not only creating beautiful collections but are doing so with the environment in mind—using recycled materials, ethical production processes, and innovative methods to reduce waste.
These designers are not just artists but pioneers for a new era in fashion, showing us that looking good does not have to come at the planet’s expense. It is essential we give them the platform and support they need to grow, and this includes ensuring that local councils, like ours, champion sustainable fashion initiatives.
We also recognise that the fashion industry provides significant economic opportunities for young entrepreneurs. By supporting these individuals—whether through local grants, business mentorship, or even hosting events that highlight their work—we can help foster a new generation of sustainable businesses.
We want to hear from anyone involved in the fashion industry, especially young designers, and entrepreneurs. Reach out to us at contact @dartfordlabour.org.uk and let us make sustainable fashion a lasting movement that benefits both our community and the world.
